In the 1960s, teenage girls were taught good manners and proper etiquette both at home and at school.

Martha Branch and Marola Witt were the cover girls of the 1966 high school Home Econmics textbook Manners Made Easy by Mary Beery:

Seventeen magazine saw their teenage readers as young adults about to enter the grown-up world. Articles about manners were regularly featured, including this one from the February 1964 issue with Colleen Corby. Mort Engel was the phographer:

An entire chapter devoted to manners was part of the curriculum for Seventeen's Beauty Workshop, a course taught at retail department stores throughout the U.S.A:

This is good. I remember learning how to get in and out of a car like this and how to take off a coat, also stooping instead of bending.
