Post"Pretty Pretty Peggy Moffitt" ~ 1968 Book

Pretty Pretty Peggy Moffitt is a delightful children's book written and illustrated by William Pene Du Bois with fashions designed by Rudi Gernreich (Harper & Row, 1968). Here is the description from the dust jacket:

The first words in Pretty Pretty Peggy Moffitt’s life were "pretty pretty girl". Her first birthday present was a little mirror. When she learned what the word "pretty" meant, she found it hard to put her little mirror down. As she grew older, she began finding herself reflected in shiny objects everywhere, so that she could go any place from herself with few blank spots in between. Of course, Pretty Pretty Peggy Moffitt found that such a fascinating life was not without danger as she bumped, tripped, and stumbled to the brink of total oblivion.

The author-artist of this lesson was raised in an atmosphere of artists and models. His father, Guy Pene Du Bois, was a painter who found that his models would sit quietly and happily if they could observe themselves in the comfort of a full-length mirror.

I’ve created a NEW album in Peggy Moffitt’s Portfolio Album for some of the pages from this special book:

Hello Susan, you'll be happy to know that you've inspired me to search through Amazon for a used out of print copy of Pretty Pretty Peggy Moffitt. She is so beautiful and inspirational. Thr book with it's all too adorable drawings of the fetching Miss Moffitt wearing the genius creations of Rudi Gernreich is a treasure that I simply couldn't pass up. So I bit the bullet and brought it!
Now I am waiting breathlessly for it's arrival. All this - could never have happened if it weren't for the wonderful work you do here. I love looking through all the lovely images and I learn so much here. Thank you!

Hi yyang,

I'm so glad you bought the book! I hope your copy included the dust jacket with the cute illustrations of little Peggy. eBay is another source for this book.

Hi brito.america,

The book is very small and impossible to scan without breaking the binding. I carefully photographed a few of the pages and then put the book away. Perhaps you can find a copy on Amazon or eBay, too.

I had this book at my grandmother's house as a child. I wish she hadn't given it away!!! It definitely informed my aesthetic sensibility.
