Post"Popular Girls Dress to Look Pretty" 1st Ingenue 1959

When I came across this fashion editorial in the May/June 1959 Ingenue magazine featuring Susan van Wyck and an unidentified model, I did a double take:

Popular Girls Dress to Look Pretty?!

Does that mean the opposite is true:

Unpopular Girls Dress to Look Ugly?!

Speaking from personal unpopular experience, I always tried to dress to look pretty...I rarely felt like I succeeded, but I tried! Can you imagine the unpopular girls (99% of us, I'll bet) excitedly opening the first issue of Ingenue magazine are reading THAT?

I was reminded of a 1965 Chantilly Perfume ad:

Here are three nice, popular girls from the 1950s looking very pretty in their dresses:

Patricia Mullarkey "Maid of Cotton"
1952 Dorothy Gray Ad
Ad Campaigns Album: Other Beauty Ads: Fragrance

Model/Actress Tuesday Weld
1957 Mum Deoderant Ad
Ad Campaigns Album: Other Beauty Ads: Bath & Body

Model/Actress Carol Lynley
1959 Coca-Cola Ad
Carol Lynley's Headsheet Album (with 3 NEW photos)

I prefer the positive attitude of this 1955 Palmolive Soap ad:
